“Feeling Lost”

A lot of us want success but we want it to be served on a platter. Truth be told, the majority of humans are generally lazy and don’t want to put the effort into getting something they want. I admit I am one of those who want something in life but don’t work for it. Not long ago someone asked me “Are you happy with your life?” After a thought, I replied “I guess it could be better” which was followed by “Well how can you make it better?” Now that I didn’t know how to answer. For a long time now, I have been feeling misplaced as if I am trapped in a never-ending tunnel, unsatisfied with where I am in life. You know how they say, there is a light at the end of the tunnel, well for me I feel like I have been chasing that light forever now. Yes, I know time and patience lead to that light, but I am over it. I am tired of waiting and want things to take a turn. Truthfully, I want to further my life, not just career-wise but also to have that mindset, a positive mindset per se. I do have the tendency to view things in a negative way.

That’s just my apprehensive side but why limit myself there? Why not take a leap of faith and do something that is uncertain to see where it lands? We are naturally afraid to take risks, we like to stay in our comfort zone and do things that we are aware of and know how to do it. Yes, I like my comfort zone but staying in that familiar contentment has not led me anywhere. I feel that to be
happy where I am in life, I need to make my dreams come true. To live a life where I don’t have to worry about how I am coming up with next month’s rent but rather think about what adventure I can go on. Recently, I met someone who had a different mindset than me. In fact, I was drawn back and felt refreshed to witness someone who was able to show me things from a different perspective. This notion of his really stood out. Our conversations were eye-opening due to the simplicity of being exposed to a different point of view as opposed to seeing one straight line. I was truly impressed and here is why. He made me realize that every choice we make will reflect on how we live or where we are in life. For example, you can choose to work hard to achieve your goals or you can sit around and wait for them to come true which they will never unless you are a very lucky person.

Now you know how everyone’s new year’s resolution is to lose weight or be in their best shape, well it’s up to them to make that possible. It’s our choice to stay committed to achieving that goal of ours. Every day for the whole year we can make decisions on what to eat and how often to exercise instead of justifying our actions and telling ourselves that our weight is not the problem. You see where I am going with this. Our future is literally in our hands. What we want in life we must work for it. Nothing really gets handed to us, well at least for us average people. You know how they say, “it’s your choice how you make your day” Your day can either be a happy one or a sad one depending on what you pick. Now you may wonder what does that even mean? Well, I now realize it’s all about the mind and how you perceive your day to be. We can all envision a positively productive day filled with happiness and satisfaction. I believe the key to a successful life is to stop the comparison and focus on your own thinking. Getting rid of stagnating thoughts and having the will to see things through and building that desires to achieve goals rather than seeking out motivation should grow the hunger to bring you closer to your dreams. Commit yourself to pursuing knowledge instead of results.
